Seongbuk-gu Selected as an Excellent Institution in Local Government Innovation Evaluation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has been selected as an excellent institution in the 2019 Local Government Innovation Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing financial incentives.
The evaluation was conducted based on 14 indicators within three major categories: △Autonomous Innovation △Innovation Performance △Innovation Diffusion and Public Perception, targeting 243 local governments nationwide. These indicators included the head of institution's innovation leadership, autonomous innovation tasks, efforts to strengthen social value, resident participation and activation of local autonomy, and fostering a collaborative culture.
Entering the 7th term of the elected government, Seongbuk-gu was recognized for realizing policies with a higher level of resident participation, providing services for all social classes including the elderly and children and youth, and implementing social value-centered policies, thereby enhancing the district’s problem-solving capabilities for residents.
In particular, Seongbuk-gu has made various innovative achievements such as ‘Creating Art Villages’ through cultural governance among art, administration, and residents, transforming streets of illegal harmful businesses into youth start-up streets, and ‘Village in Suda’ for resident-led local problem solving, moving one step closer to becoming ‘Seongbuk-gu where innovation becomes routine.’
