Prosecutors Arrest and Indict Prestigious University Student for Alleged Sexual Assault of Two Female Club Members
Crime Committed After Falling Asleep Drunk at Own Home
Also Charged with Acts of Violence
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A prestigious university student who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting two female club members has been brought to trial.
The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 4th that Mr. A, a student at a prestigious university, was recently indicted on charges of rape causing injury and quasi-rape.
According to the prosecution, Mr. A is accused of sexually assaulting club member Ms. B at his home in Seoul at around 6:30 a.m. on December 19 last year, and attempting to sexually assault Ms. C while using violence.
Mr. A, who is the president of a university joint club, reportedly took two female members to his home after finishing the new member interviews and after-party attended by students from several universities on the 18th of last month. Victim Ms. C fell asleep first, and victim Ms. B fell asleep after drinking more with Mr. A.
The next early morning, Mr. A sexually assaulted the sleeping Ms. B, and attempted to sexually assault Ms. C by assaulting her, including strangling her when she resisted. Ms. C bit Mr. A’s finger, causing injury, then escaped and reported to the police.
The police, upon receiving the report, arrested and detained Mr. A, investigated the circumstances of the crime, and transferred the case to the prosecution on the 26th of the same month.
The club to which the victims belonged was an organization created by Mr. A, mainly engaged in planning public lecture programs and producing videos.
