Cambodia's Treasure Found in Korea: 'Kampot Black Pepper'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The authentic "Kampot Black Pepper," known as a treasure of Cambodia alongside Angkor Wat, is now available in South Korea.
The Kampot region in Cambodia, where the world's finest luxury pepper is produced, offers optimal conditions for pepper cultivation due to the combination of intense sunlight, sea breeze, rich soil, and moderate rainfall. Kampot Black Pepper authentic products from this region are supplied by Kamco Green and distributed by Home & Bada.
The product consists of authentic Kampot Black Pepper (40g × 2 packs) and one grinder.
Cambodia's annual pepper production is about 20,000 tons. Among this, only about 70 to 80 tons are recognized as authentic Kampot Black Pepper, of which 50% is exported to Europe, 20% to the United States and Japan, and the remaining 10% to other regions.
Despite the global reputation of authentic Kampot Black Pepper, production volume does not increase significantly because it must undergo strict inspections and quality verification processes from cultivation to harvest, packaging, and distribution.
Only members of the regional producers' association, KPPA (Kampot Pepper Promotion Association), are allowed to use the Kampot Black Pepper logo. Members are strictly supervised by KPPA from cultivation, production, packaging, to sales of Kampot Black Pepper, and only products that pass quality inspections by the global certification body ECOCERT are assigned a traceable quality certification number (Lot Number).
