Tomorrow's Seoul Metropolitan Area Fine Dust Preliminary Reduction Measures... Public Sector 2-Day Rotation Including Compact Cars (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of Environment announced on the 2nd that it will implement preliminary fine dust reduction measures across the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, on the 3rd.
Preliminary reduction measures are proactive fine dust reduction actions targeting the public sector one day in advance when there is a high possibility of emergency reduction measures being implemented the day after tomorrow (the 4th).
Following the issuance of the preliminary reduction measures, a two-day vehicle operation restriction will be enforced on employees of administrative and public institutions located in the three metropolitan cities and provinces from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow (the 3rd).
Currently, the metropolitan area is already implementing a public sector two-day vehicle operation restriction under the fine dust seasonal management system, but with the issuance of the preliminary reduction measures, compact cars will be additionally included in the mandatory two-day restriction.
Administrative and public institution workplaces located in the metropolitan area will shorten or adjust their operating hours, and construction sites will implement dust suppression measures such as changing or adjusting construction hours and covering dust with tarps.
Fifteen private workplaces located in the metropolitan area that have voluntarily signed agreements with the Ministry of Environment will also implement their own reduction measures.
However, reduction measures for private workplaces and construction sites, as well as restrictions on the operation of grade 5 emission vehicles in the metropolitan area, will not be enforced.
The three metropolitan cities and provinces will expand the operation of road cleaning vehicles such as dust suction cleaning trucks and conduct their own inspections and crackdowns targeting workplaces and construction sites. The Metropolitan Air Quality Management Office plans to use unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) surveillance teams to monitor industrial complexes and other areas with dense workplaces.
