Damyang-gun Selected as an 'Excellent Institution' in Local Government Innovation Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 2nd that it was selected as an excellent institution in the local government innovation evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a financial incentive of 50 million won in special grants.
This evaluation, conducted on 243 local governments nationwide, was based on 14 indicators across three major categories: autonomous innovation, innovation performance, innovation diffusion, and public perception.
The county received high marks for leading changes that allowed residents to feel innovation in their daily lives, based on autonomy and innovation alongside the 7th local government term.
The county has been promoting various innovative policies such as the Cultural Ecology City project, Damyang-eup Urban Regeneration New Deal project, registration of Juknokwon as a local garden, and laying the groundwork for autonomous agricultural policy realization.
This year as well, the county plans to focus its administrative capabilities on communication and innovation to enhance the completeness of county administration.

A county official said, “This selection is the result of operating regional development forums where residents take the lead in seeking solutions to local problems and forming village-level autonomous associations for the first time nationwide, protecting residents' authority and expanding participation,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to make Damyang a community centered on its residents.”
