Haman-gun, Gyeongja Year Sunrise Event... Wishing for Community Harmony, Well-being, and Unification

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju-cheol In Joo] On the morning of the 1st at 7 a.m., Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a New Year's event welcoming the Year of the Rat at the county office plaza with about 1,000 residents in attendance.
The event, which opened with a unification prayer ceremony wishing for peaceful reunification and the resounding beat of drums to energetically welcome the new year, featured a New Year's address by Haman County Governor Jo Geun-je, followed by congratulatory speeches from Park Yong-soon, Chairman of the County Council, and Jang Jong-ha, Provincial Assembly member. They wished for the development of the county and the harmony and well-being of its residents.
Next, the Haman Writers' Association recited a congratulatory poem, and the Gaya-eup Nongak Troupe performed a pungmulnori (traditional Korean folk percussion performance) to welcome the hopeful new year.
As the sun rose with the lively sound of drums, residents released hope balloons carrying their wishes, praying for a peaceful year, and welcomed the New Year's morning by tasting warm rice cake soup (tteokguk).
After the sunrise event, a memorial visit was held at Chungui Park located in Dangsan Village, Dohang-ri, Gaya-eup, adding significance to the first day of the new year.

Governor Jo said, "I sincerely wish that the Year of the Rat will be filled with blessed energy like the bright and warm morning light of the New Year's dawn," and added, "I will earnestly uphold the will of the residents and do my best to make Haman a place filled with the fragrance of culture and improved welfare, economy, and education in the new year."
