The ripple effects of war are driving up airline ticket prices.

Due to the surge in international oil prices, airline have jumped significantly,

and as a result, travel expenses next month are expected to increase.

The benchmark for the fuel surcharge

is the average price of Singapore jet fuel (MOPS).

This month, it was at level 6,

but next month (based on February 16 to March 15), it will rise to level 18.

This surpasses the level 17 seen during the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022,

marking the highest level in about three years and six months.

With the rise in oil prices,

airlines have announced plans to increase fuel surcharges next month.

Depending on the route,

the surcharge is expected to rise by more than three times in some cases.

For Asiana Airlines,

this month’s fuel surcharge ranged from 14,600 won to 78,600 won,

but next month it is expected to increase to between 43,900 won and 251,900 won.

Korean Air

is also forecast to raise its surcharge by more than 100,000 won above the current maximum distance rate of 13,500 won to 99,000 won applied this month.
