After the accident, Ms. A's grandfather sent a letter of thanks to the Gangneung Police Station
A story has emerged of a police officer who saved the life of an 18-month-old baby whose airway was blocked while eating jelly, thanks to quick emergency response.
According to the Gangwon Police Station on December 16, on November 24 in the Gyodong area of Gangneung, Gangwon Province,
an 18-month-old girl, referred to as Ms. A, was riding in her grandparents' car
when she suddenly stopped breathing while eating jelly.
As the jelly blocked her airway, Ms. A lost consciousness,
and her panicked grandparents quickly pulled over to the side of the road and called for help.
At that moment, Sergeant Han Areum of the Gangneung Police Station, who was passing by the scene, noticed the situation.
Sergeant Han immediately stopped her vehicle, approached the child to assess her condition,
and, after obtaining the guardian's consent, performed emergency first aid.
She administered the Heimlich maneuver for about 30 seconds,
and as a result, the jelly that was blocking Ms. A's airway was expelled.
Ms. A subsequently regained consciousness,
and according to the 119 emergency medical team that responded to the scene,
she was found to have no significant health issues.

"In a moment of panic and confusion,
a police officer appeared and saved the child's life," he expressed his gratitude.
The Gangwon Police Station shared the story on its official social media accounts,
"We will continue to do our best to protect the safety of our residents," they stated.
