On the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the voter turnout reached a record high of 14.05% as of 3 p.m.
On May 29, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout as of 3 p.m. was recorded at 14.05%. This marks the highest early voting turnout rate ever for this time of day.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 3 p.m., 6,235,304 out of a total of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.
The nationwide average early voting turnout stands at 14.05%. Since the early voting system was first introduced for nationwide elections in the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest turnout rate for this time slot, excluding by-elections and re-elections.
So far, Jeonnam has recorded the highest turnout at 26.54%, followed by Jeonbuk at 24.36% and Gwangju at 23.39%. Daegu has the lowest turnout at 9.59%.
Early voting will be held over two days, from May 29 to May 30. Polling stations are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring valid identification and visit an early voting station.
