The Second Captain Inherits the Shield..."A Journey Different from Rogers"
Anthony Mackie, the actor who has taken on a pivotal role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the superhero franchise produced by Marvel Studios, MCU), has signaled the full-fledged beginning of a generational shift. In an online press conference for the film "Captain America: Brave New World" held on the 5th, he stated, "Sam Wilson walks a completely different path from Steve Rogers and defines his own Captain America."
Wilson, played by Mackie, has so far appeared as "Falcon" in Marvel Studios productions. He has been spotlighted as a supporter who assists the original Captain America, Rogers (Chris Evans), in battle. In this film, he inherits the iconic Captain America shield from Rogers. Mackie said, "He is a character who fully embodies the qualities required of Captain America, such as a sense of justice, humanity, and passion," and added, "Because he is prepared, I believe he is well-suited to point the way forward for Captain America and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe." He continued, "It is an honor to play such a character."
Justice, Honesty, and Integrity as Weapons
"Captain America: Brave New World," which brings Wilson to the forefront for the first time, is an action blockbuster about Wilson uncovering the existence and motives of an evil plot to take over the world, standing at the center of an international incident. Wilson's approach to confronting villains is completely different from Rogers. He does not possess superhuman strength, but he is aggressive and humorous.
Mackie said, "He fights with the mindset that the best defense is a good offense, so there are a lot of exaggerated movements," and added, "By maximizing the functions of the suit he wears, the film delivers plenty of visual spectacle." Director Julius Onah, who attended the event, explained the humorous background, saying, "We tried to convey the message that everyone has something good in them, not just in the drama but also in the action."
