Special Exhibition of Twelve Workshops for National Intangible Heritage
From May 21 at Gangnam Training Center
Featuring Forty-Five Signature Works
The National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on May 14 that it will hold the "Special Exhibition of Twelve Workshops: Gong-Deulim (工-DREAM)" at the National Intangible Heritage Training Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from May 21 to August 21.
Opened in 1981, the Training Center serves as both an educational space for passing down skills and arts and as an experiential space for traditional culture. Eight performing arts groups and twelve technical workshops are housed in the center.
The exhibition will feature twelve masters from twelve workshops representing eleven crafts, including gat-making, needlework, knotting, inlay, ox horn craft, embroidery, wood carving, instrument making, bow making, sculpture, and soban (Korean traditional tray tables). Forty-five signature works will be showcased.
The exhibition consists of five sections. It begins with videos of workshop activities, followed by displays of tools and materials, works, artisan interviews, and an experience zone. Actual sounds from the production process will also be played as ASMR.
