Lunit Signs MOU with Severance Hospital to Collaborate on Clinical Adoption of Medical Foundation Model-Based AI
Lunit, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced on May 15 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Severance Hospital for the development, research, and clinical deployment of medical AI based on biomedical foundation models.
The signing ceremony, held on May 14 in the hospital director's office at Severance Hospital, was attended by major representatives from both organizations, including Beomseok Seo, CEO of Lunit; Dongkeun Yoo, CAIO; Kangyoung Lee, Director of Severance Hospital; Eosu Kim, Vice Director of Research; and Junseok Lim, Director of Digital Health.
The biomedical foundation model is a specialized AI model for the medical field that is trained on massive volumes of medical papers, clinical data, and treatment guidelines. Based on this, various application AIs tailored for purposes such as clinical support and hospital operations can be rapidly developed. Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to jointly develop such application AIs, implement them in real-world clinical settings, and advance step by step toward commercialization and widespread adoption in healthcare.
Specifically, the two organizations will actively collaborate to: ▲ identify clinical and operational application scenarios for the biomedical foundation model; ▲ conduct R&D and field implementation of application AIs based on the biomedical foundation model; ▲ promote the dissemination and commercialization of developed technologies; and ▲ cooperate on data sharing and joint project discovery for technology development.
Severance Hospital is one of Korea's leading medical institutions, boasting extensive clinical experience and a wealth of clinical data. Lunit plans to leverage these resources to accelerate the development of practical application AIs and their implementation in clinical practice.
