Korea Transportation Safety Authority Partners with German Institute to Advance Vehicle Inspection Technologies
Development of SDV, Electric Vehicle, and Autonomous Vehicle Inspection Technologies with Germany's FSD
The Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced that on the 14th, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the German Advanced Vehicle Inspection Institute (FSD) at the Sejong Vehicle Inspection Office for the joint development of advanced vehicle inspection technologies and strategies.
With the increasing adoption of advanced vehicles such as software-defined vehicles (SDVs), electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles, the need to advance inspection technologies has grown, leading to this collaboration. The two organizations agreed to jointly develop advanced vehicle inspection technologies, co-develop future vehicle inspection strategies, establish and maintain joint positions in international organizations, jointly publish papers and research materials, and promote expert exchanges.

View original imageSpecifically, the Authority will develop inspection technologies and advance standards, centered on the Advanced Vehicle Inspection Research Center. Together with the German institute, they plan to develop SDV function inspection and inspection technologies utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, they will maintain cooperative relationships with international organizations such as UNECE WP.29 (World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe), ISO, and CITA (International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee), and jointly respond to the establishment and revision of international standards.

Previously, since the memorandum of understanding in 2018, the two organizations have continued their exchange activities, such as technical forums and technical consultations. Jeong Yong-sik, President of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, stated, "This agreement will serve as an important foundation for both organizations to ensure the operational safety of advanced vehicles in response to the rapidly changing future mobility environment, including SDVs, electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles."
