[IT Cafe] SKB President Sungsoo Kim Visits 41 Sites After Taking Office..."Even Rides a Lift Truck to the Top of a Utility Pole"
Visiting 7 to 8 Sites Per Month
Leading the Spread of a Safety-First Culture
"When the CEO visits the site, doesn't it naturally become cleaner and better managed?"
Since taking office at the end of October last year, Sungsoo Kim, President of SK Broadband, has been energizing the organization through an aggressive field management approach. On the 19th, Kim personally visited the Seodaemun Central Office to inspect the site and encourage his staff. The Central Office is a telecommunications facility where internet, telephone, and IPTV equipment are concentrated. As one of the core facilities operating the telecommunications network in the Seodaemun district, it is responsible for tasks such as distributing internet lines, processing B tv signals, connecting telephone networks and fiber optic cables, and operating server and network equipment.
Due to Kim's frequent site visits recently, some insiders have said, "We're so busy cleaning for the CEO's visit that it's become a topic of conversation," but added, "However, this is an opportunity to manage the site, including telecommunications equipment, more systematically and to prepare for monitoring failures." With his extensive experience in field management, Kim’s strategic and frequent visits are seen as instilling a sense of discipline and alertness in the organization.

Since being appointed as CEO, Kim has visited a total of 41 sites, starting with a visit to the Anseong Logistics Center in November last year. It is said that he visits 7 to 8 locations each month, setting an example in spreading a culture of safety and communicating with employees. During these site visits, 4 to 5 executives accompany him. On the 14th, when visiting the Gangseo Central Office, Kim even rode a high-altitude work vehicle to experience working atop a utility pole. According to staff on-site, "It's probably the first time a CEO has climbed a utility pole work truck," and added, "When the CEO listens directly to field workers and identifies potential risks on the spot, he requests immediate corrective action."
After serving in key positions such as Head of the Smart Devices Division at SK Telecom, Head of the MNO (Mobile Network Operator) Marketing Group, and Head of Sales, Kim was appointed as Head of the Wired and Media Business Division at SK Broadband last year before being promoted to CEO. He is now pursuing change at SK Broadband by prioritizing site management to fundamentally improve the company. An SK Broadband official said, "He continuously emphasizes the importance of safety and has a management style that puts the field first," adding, "The CEO is increasing direct communication and engagement with employees, as well as with external partners."
