Joseon Tongsinsa Ship Experience Program to Be Operated at Hwaseong Boat Festival
Onboard Museum and Boarding Experience Available
from the 22nd to the 25th
The National Research Institute of Maritime Heritage announced on the 21st that it will operate a maritime heritage experience program using the Joseon Tongsinsa Ship at the 'Hwaseong Boat Festival,' which is being held by Hwaseong City and the Hwaseong City Foundation for Culture & Tourism until the 29th. By linking regional festivals with national heritage content, the program aims to promote the excellence of traditional Hanseon ships and the value of maritime cultural heritage.
The replica ship is a Joseon-era diplomatic vessel built to full scale by the Institute in 2018. Since 2023, it has retraced the Korea-Japan maritime route. In particular, last year, it successfully entered Osaka Port in Japan for the first time in 261 years since the dispatch of the Joseon Tongsinsa, showcasing the excellence of Korea's traditional shipbuilding technology and maritime culture both domestically and internationally.
The ship, which departed from Mokpo on the 15th, entered Jeongok Port in Hwaseong City after passing through Wido and Sinjindo. From the 22nd, an onboard museum and boarding experience will be available for four days. Participants can learn about the history of Joseon-era diplomacy and maritime exchange through onboard exhibitions and guided tours, and enjoy actual sailing and traditional cultural performances.
