Plans to Expand Offline Presence Across the U.S.
CJ Olive Young is opening its first offline store in the continental United States, launching an ambitious initiative to target the world's largest beauty market. Having dominated the domestic health and beauty (H&B) specialty store market for the past 27 years, Olive Young now aims to establish the United States as a strategic hub in the global market, capitalizing on the worldwide "K-beauty" craze.
On May 21, CJ Olive Young announced that it will open "Olive Young Pasadena" at 58 Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, California, on May 29. On the same day, it will also launch an online store dedicated to the U.S. market.
Olive Young CEO Lee Sunjeong stated, "Olive Young, which has become a 'K-beauty shopping mecca' and a 'landmark for tourists visiting Korea,' is now taking its first step into the United States, a key global market. Just as we have discovered and grown alongside numerous small and medium-sized brands—once a market dominated by a handful of large, international brands—we will help K-beauty and the K-lifestyle take deeper root in overseas markets."
Olive Young Pasadena will initially showcase around 5,000 products from approximately 400 beauty and wellness brands. The store offers a balanced selection of K-beauty brands proven popular in Korea, brands that have gained traction in the North American market, and global brands that reflect local U.S. trends. The product curation on the shelves will be updated as frequently as every two weeks to quickly reflect K-beauty trends.
The store is designed as a "beauty playground" where customers can discover new brands and products and find beauty routines that suit them. Noteworthy features include ingredient exploration displays highlighting popular K-beauty skincare components like hyaluronic acid and PDRN, as well as displays of beauty tools such as gua sha stones and patches arranged alongside functional skincare products.
There are dedicated areas where customers can try cleansing products, toner pads, and leading sun care products—the flagship categories of K-beauty. Personalized beauty experience services will also be offered to help local consumers better understand K-beauty. In addition to skin and scalp diagnosis, customers can receive one-point consultations on K-beauty skincare routines.
Olive Young will also simultaneously launch its U.S.-dedicated online store, greatly enhancing the convenience of online shopping. While the Olive Young Global Mall, which serves customers worldwide, offers free shipping for orders over $60, the U.S. online store will provide free shipping on orders over $35. By utilizing a local logistics center in Bloomington, California, delivery times will be cut in half from the previous 5 to 7 business days.
Olive Young plans to first expand into California and other western regions, starting with Los Angeles, and then extend its offline presence into key commercial districts of the central and eastern United States, including New York. The company intends to utilize customer feedback and store operation data gathered from the Pasadena location to refine its expansion strategy.
