Five Types of Guro-Style Smart Poles to Be Installed

On May 21, the Guro District Office in Seoul announced that it will install 36 “Guro-type Smart Poles” in five different categories throughout the Gaebong 2 and 3-dong areas as part of this year’s Smart Village Development Project.

The Smart Village Development Project aims to enhance safety and convenience by installing smart poles that integrate information and communication technology (ICT) in areas with underdeveloped smart infrastructure, thus helping to prevent crimes and traffic accidents. Following the successful completion of the project in Guro 4-dong in 2024, the district applied for and was selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “2026 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project,” targeting the Gaebong 2 and 3-dong areas to standardize and expand the initiative.

The project’s budget totals 1,313,000,000 won, comprising 919,000,000 won from the national government and 394,000,000 won from the district. The detailed design phase has already been completed, and full-scale procurement will begin in June, with the goal of finishing the installation by the end of the year.

The smart poles will be divided into five types according to their purpose and features. Six streetlight smart poles will be installed at major intersections and on main roads with high pedestrian traffic, integrating intelligent security CCTV, Wi-Fi, and Internet of Things (IoT) network functions.

Twenty-one CCTV smart poles will be placed in security-vulnerable areas such as residential neighborhoods, backstreets, and alleyways. These poles will be equipped with intelligent security CCTV, IoT LED security lights, illegal dumping guidance cameras, emergency bells, and logo projectors. Two illegal parking smart poles will be installed in parking enforcement zones to help improve the traffic environment.

Three integrated safety smart poles, which display real-time vehicle speed to encourage compliance with traffic laws, and four blind spot smart notification poles, which provide blind spot information through large LED displays, will be concentrated in areas vulnerable to traffic accidents such as school zones and steep slopes. The district will also introduce an on-site AI video analysis system as part of the project, enabling faster and more accurate customized services such as illegal dumping guidance.

A Guro District Office representative stated, “Through the Smart Village Development Project, we will continue to expand smart infrastructure to enhance the safety and convenience of our residents. We will do our utmost to create a residential environment where residents can live with peace of mind.”
