Gwangju Bukgu, "Are Toys Too Expensive? Rent Them at Affordable Prices"
Reducing Financial Burdens on Childcare Families with the "Mobile Toy Rental Service"
A Total of 484 Types and 690 Items Including Dolls, Puzzles, and Blocks... Annual Fee of 30,000 Won with Discount Benefits
Bukgu District in Gwangju is launching a full-scale "Mobile Toy Rental Service" to ease the childcare burden on families with infants and toddlers and provide children with a variety of play opportunities.
On May 20, Bukgu District announced that it will officially operate the "Dream-Growing Mobile Toy Sharing Center" to offer a wide range of play options to children and alleviate the financial burden on childcare families.
This project aims to support child development by providing diverse toy experiences while also reducing household spending on toy purchases. The support is available to households raising children under the age of seven within the district, as well as to childcare centers, kindergartens, and other child-related institutions.
The rental toy collection consists of 484 types and 690 items in total, including dolls, puzzles, and blocks, which are highly preferred by infants and toddlers. The basic annual fee is 30,000 won for individuals (40,000 won for institutions and organizations), with discounts available for families with two or more children, recipients of basic livelihood security, and single-parent families.
In particular, Bukgu District has introduced a system that brings the service directly to each region to improve accessibility for residents. The service areas are divided into Unam, Ilgok, Yangsan, and Sinyong, and until the end of this year, the service will visit four designated base locations—Unam Library, Ilgok Culture Center, Yangsan Library, and Sinyong Library—once a week for each location.
Residents who wish to borrow toys can visit the Kum Namu Social Welfare Center website, reserve the educational materials they want, and pick them up at the designated regional base. Up to two toys can be rented at a time for 14 days, and returned toys undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection to ensure hygienic management.
