The Geochang Quarry Association and the Geochang Stone Processing Cooperative in Gyeongnam Province have announced their intention to support the candidate for Geochang County Governor who actively cooperates in revitalizing the local quarry and stone industry and resolving industry challenges.
On the morning of May 20 at 11 a.m., the Geochang Quarry Association and the Geochang Stone Processing Cooperative held a press conference at the Geochang County Office briefing room, stating, "The Geochang quarry and stone industry is a key foundational industry for the local economy and job creation, but it is currently facing significant difficulties due to the economic downturn, rising production costs, various regulations, and on-site complaints."
They added, "In particular, the increasing burdens on businesses are due to licensing procedures, environmental regulations, and a rise in on-site complaints," emphasizing, "We will support a candidate who understands the realities of the local industry and actively cooperates in revitalizing quarries."
Additionally, the industry requested that the county administration reflect the following: holding regular meetings with the quarry industry, strengthening field-oriented communication, providing reasonable administrative support for licensing, administrative cooperation to resolve on-site complaints, expanding the use of locally produced stone, and enhancing the competitiveness of the stone processing industry.
Han Kyungwon, head of the Geochang Stone Processing Cooperative, stated, "The stone industry in Geochang has long been a representative industry supporting the local economy, but recently, the entire sector has been facing a considerable crisis," adding, "A regular meeting system for communication between the administration and the industry is absolutely necessary."
He continued, "It is urgent that the administration pays attention and provides cooperation to hear and resolve on-site difficulties directly, and policy support is also needed to ensure that stone produced locally is given priority in local projects."
The head of the Geochang Stone Factory Cooperative emphasized, "Stone processing companies are facing severe difficulties due to rising raw material prices, shrinking sales channels, and labor shortages," and added, "Administrative support to strengthen the competitiveness of the processing industry and policies that reflect the realities of the industry are essential."
He also said, "We expect that a candidate who does not ignore the voices from the field and seeks solutions together with the industry will be able to revitalize the local economy."
Lee Sowoo, head of the Geochang Quarry Association, stated, "The quarry industry is not just a simple mining business but an important industry that supports local jobs and the economy," and added, "We hope to revive the local economy together with a candidate who understands the realities of the industry and actively cooperates in revitalizing quarries and enhancing corporate competitiveness."
