View original imageOn May 20, the Special Prosecutor's Office announced, "Due to a number of ongoing cases that require continued investigation, we have decided to extend the investigation period in accordance with Article 10, Paragraph 3 of the Special Prosecutor Act, and reported both the decision and its reasons to the President and the National Assembly."
The Special Prosecutor Act allows for the investigation period to be extended twice, each time by 30 days, with the President's approval. The original investigation period for the Special Prosecutor's Office was set to end on May 24.

Launched in February, the Special Prosecutor's Office made its first attempt to secure a suspect on May 18, about three months after its establishment, by requesting an arrest warrant for former KTV Director Lee Eunwoo on charges of inciting rebellion. The day before, arrest warrants were also requested on charges of abuse of power for former Presidential Chief of Staff Kim Daeki, former Presidential Secretary for General Affairs Yoon Jaesoon, and former First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Ojin, in connection with allegations of preferential treatment in the relocation of the presidential residence.
