Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon Operated by Samsung Welstory Ranks First in Military Meal Service Evaluation
Evaluation of 19 Army Units Nationwide Operating Civilian Meal Services
Menus Reflecting Soldiers' Preferences and High-Protein Diets Implemented
Samsung Welstory announced on May 19 that the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon, where it provides meal services, was selected as the top site in the "2026 Army Outstanding Civilian-Entrusted Meal Service Provider Evaluation" organized by the Army Headquarters.
The Army Headquarters conducted the evaluation from February this year, targeting 19 Army units nationwide that operate meal services through civilian outsourcing. The evaluation covered six areas: satisfaction, nutritional balance, menu harmony, hygiene, cooperation, and contract fulfillment. Both evaluations by the units themselves and comparative menu assessments by Army Headquarters were conducted.

The academy received high marks for reflecting soldiers' preferred menus, developing new dishes using seasonal ingredients, and designing nutritionally balanced meals, which contributed to improving meal quality and the health of the soldiers.
Samsung Welstory operates a high-protein, balanced diet program, taking into account the cadets' high activity levels. In addition to reflecting popular menu choices, the company develops new dishes using seasonal ingredients and holds seasonal promotions. Weekly menu planning meetings are held to introduce dishes that reflect current dining trends.
The Ministry of National Defense is gradually expanding civilian outsourcing of military meals in response to a reduction in troop numbers and the need to improve meal quality. As a result, competition among group catering companies to secure a foothold in the military meal service market is intensifying.
