On May 18, Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province, announced the official commencement of the "Waegwan 1 General Industrial Complex Competitiveness Enhancement Project" to strengthen competitiveness and improve working conditions at the Waegwan 1 General Industrial Complex, located in Geumsan and Samcheong-ri, Waegwan-eup. The complex, which was completed more than 30 years ago, has become outdated.

At the time, Waegwan 1 Industrial Complex was designated as a linked complex in the "Gyeongbuk Industrial Complex Grand Remodeling" project, with the Gumi National Industrial Complex as its hub. Since then, systematic planning and administrative procedures were completed, a contractor was selected, contracts were signed, and construction is scheduled to begin around June.
The project will invest a total of 18 billion won (50% national funding, 50% county funding) with the goal of completion by the end of 2028. The main focus is on addressing the lack of transportation and convenience facilities within the industrial complex.
Specifically, the project will: ▲ improve logistics flow by connecting and widening disconnected roads (640.5 meters); ▲ resolve parking shortages by expanding eight parking lots (435 spaces in total); and ▲ renovate four aging parks to provide pleasant rest areas for workers.
A Chilgok County official stated, "This project goes beyond simple facility repairs, focusing on systematically improving disconnected road networks and expanding essential infrastructure," adding, "We will maximize convenience for industrial complex users, enhance corporate competitiveness, and help the complex become a key hub for local growth."
Meanwhile, to minimize inconvenience for tenant companies and workers during construction, Chilgok County plans to implement step-by-step construction by section and strengthen on-site guidance and communication, ensuring thorough on-site management.
