Kyungdong Navien Further Expands Its 'Water Heater Power' in North America
North American Sales Rise 20% in Q1
Condensing Water Heater Drives Strong Performance
The influence of Kyungdong Navien’s flagship product for the North American market, the "condensing water heater," has further expanded. Since launching its condensing tankless water heaters in North America in 2008, Kyungdong Navien has continuously increased both its market size and share. Thanks to strong sales of this product line, the company raised its North American sales in the first quarter of this year by approximately 20% compared to the same period last year.
According to Kyungdong Navien on May 19, its North American sales for the first quarter of this year reached 257.6 billion won. Total consolidated revenue stood at 425.3 billion won. This means that the North American market accounts for more than 60% of the company’s overall sales. North American sales increased by 20.2% compared to last year. Considering that overall sales grew by 16.5% year-on-year, the strong performance in the North American market stands out. Kyungdong Navien explained that this was due to the expanded market influence of its condensing water heaters in the region.
The condensing water heater is the product that enabled Kyungdong Navien to establish itself in the North American market. When Kyungdong Navien introduced its condensing water heater to a market that predominantly used storage-type water heaters in 2008, the market size was just over 20,000 units per year. The company has since expanded the market to around 800,000 units annually. Of these, Kyungdong Navien now supplies more than 400,000 units each year, and its market share is steadily increasing.
Kyungdong Navien’s competitiveness in the North American water heater market is expected to strengthen further. This is due to the anticipated increase in demand for its heat pump-type products, which have been launched as part of its expanded heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business. A heat pump is an eco-friendly heating and cooling technology that uses electricity to absorb heat from air, ground, or water and then utilizes it. In the United States, standard electric water heaters are required to improve efficiency through heat pump technology as part of carbon reduction efforts, and this standard will become mandatory in 2029.
The "heat pump water heater" that Kyungdong Navien launched in North America last year has received positive reviews from both consumers and installers for its high energy efficiency and user convenience. The product features a stainless steel tank, making it highly resistant to corrosion and extremely hygienic. In addition, Kyungdong Navien plans to target the market with its heat pump water heater products that incorporate an energy hybrid solution combining electricity and gas.

This product minimizes energy consumption during regular use by operating as an electric heat pump, and in situations where electricity demand or hot water usage surges, it can also utilize gas to ensure a stable hot water supply. A Kyungdong Navien representative stated, "We are introducing high-efficiency products that are tailored to the local energy environment," adding, "We will continue to innovate our technology in order to provide the most optimized living environment for North American consumers."
