Seoul City Recruiting Cafes for Personal Cup Discount Program: "500 Won Benefit Per Drink"
Seoul Launches Official Personal Cup Discount Program from May 18
100 Won Store Discount Plus 400 Won City Subsidy Per Drink
On "Tumbler Day," Up to 2,500 Won Benefit for 50 Drinks Per Store
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is providing a benefit of 500 won per drink to customers who use personal cups at participating stores, aiming to reduce the use of disposable cups and promote the culture of using personal cups.
On May 18, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will officially implement the personal cup usage discount program starting in 2026. When purchasing a beverage using a personal cup, such as a tumbler, at participating stores, customers will receive a minimum discount of 100 won from the store itself, plus an additional 400 won subsidy from the city, resulting in a total benefit of at least 500 won per drink.
Currently, there are about 160 participating stores, which can be checked via the Smart Seoul Map. If the participating store is also a Seoul Pay merchant, customers may receive either an immediate discount at the point of sale or Seoul Pay point rewards, depending on the payment method.
Additionally, the city will support participating stores in autonomously operating a “Tumbler Day” once a month. On Tumbler Day, customers who purchase beverages using personal cups will receive an extra discount of 2,500 won per drink, with a maximum of 50 drinks per store per day eligible for the discount.
Stores wishing to participate can apply by submitting via the QR code on the recruitment poster or by email to the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s designated support agency. This year, non-Seoul Pay merchants are also eligible to apply. However, stores must provide a minimum self-discount of 100 won per drink for personal cup use, and the payment terminal must be configured to immediately apply the personal cup discount at the time of payment.
