Ten experts in the field of smart cities attended the meeting. The attendees included Hwang Junki, the Second Deputy Mayor of Yongin Special City, who served as the chair, as well as public officials from relevant departments, ex officio members, city councilors, university professors, and researchers from the city government, making up the panel of 10 smart city specialists.
The first part of the review focused on the "Yongin Platform City Smart City Construction Project," which will be developed on approximately 2 million square meters in the Mabuk, Bojeong, and Singal-dong areas of Giheung-gu. The project has a total budget of 16 billion won and centers on establishing 19 types of state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Major initiatives include: ▲ a 'Smart Signal Operation System' to optimize real-time traffic flow, ▲ a 'Traffic Information and Parking Information System' to provide accurate transportation data, and ▲ a 'Vehicle Tracking System' to enhance urban safety.
Based on this plan, the city intends to transform Yongin Platform City into a future-oriented hub city equipped with an intelligent transportation system, centered on transfer points and capable of supporting autonomous vehicles.
The second part of the meeting discussed the area surrounding Yongin Central Park (approximately 700,000 square meters) in the Gimnyangjang-dong and Yeokbuk-dong districts of Cheoin-gu. The city plans to invest 4.8 billion won here to introduce 11 types of smart services that citizens can experience directly.
Key facilities will include: ▲ a 'Media Facade' to improve the urban landscape, ▲ 'Smart Bus Shelters' equipped with weather information and convenience features, ▲ 'Emergency Safety Bells' for immediate response in critical situations, and ▲ a 'Real-Time Traffic Control System' to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth vehicle flow.
The city will incorporate expert feedback from this consultation to refine the implementation plan, and aims to grant final approval and official notification for a total of three smart city projects, including the "Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Complex" project reviewed in January.
The projects are scheduled to begin detailed design in the second half of 2026, with sequential completion as follows: ▲ Yongin Central Park (December 2029), ▲ Yongin Platform City (December 2030), and ▲ Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Complex (December 2031).
