On May 14, BGF Retail announced that its convenience store brand, CU, will sequentially launch three varieties of the ‘LalaSweet Ddeumbbuk Bar,’ which contain up to 15% real fruit, to mark the start of the summer season.
Recently, demand for premium products made with actual fruit pieces, rather than just fruit flavors or juices, has been rising. In fact, sales of CU’s ‘Real Fruit Smoothie’ last month increased by 78.1% compared to June of last year, when it was first introduced. Since the end of last year, CU has steadily expanded its lineup of products featuring real fruit, including the fresh fruit sandwich series, seasonal winter strawberry desserts, and Absolute Vodka fresh fruit highballs. As a result, these products have recorded sales indices approximately 30% higher than standard items.
By launching the three varieties of the LalaSweet Ddeumbbuk Bar that reflect this real fruit trend, CU is expanding the scope of premium products using real fruit into the ice cream category.
The LalaSweet Ddeumbbuk Bar series, which CU is introducing exclusively in the industry, features up to 15% real fruit toppings (based on the Strawberry Ddeumbbuk Bar), offering the texture of actual fruit. Thanks to LalaSweet’s signature low-sugar formulation, even consumers watching their diet in the summer can enjoy these treats without concern. Each LalaSweet Ddeumbbuk Bar contains approximately 55 kcal and about 4g of sugar, providing a refreshing fruit ice cream. The three available flavors are Strawberry, Gold Kiwi Pine, and Peach Mango.
CU plans to increase customer accessibility by running an ongoing 1+1 promotion from June to August, the peak summer season.

We decided to incorporate fruit into our ice cream lineup to respond to this new demand," adding, "CU will continue to quickly identify trends and introduce a diverse range of products to meet consumer needs."
