The released photo is a mugshot taken by law enforcement at the time of arrest to record the physical characteristics of the suspect.
The police initially decided to disclose his personal information on May 8, but because Jang Yoonki did not consent, a five-day grace period was observed before the information was posted on this day.
As public outrage grew over a crime in which a young student fell victim on a city street, Jang Yoonki's real name and face photo spread on social networking services within just one day of the disclosure deferral. Jang Yoonki is the first suspect in a heinous crime in Gwangju to have his personal information made public.
He was born in 2002 and is 23 years old. He was unemployed at the time of his arrest.
At around 12:11 a.m. on May 5, Jang Yoonki was urgently arrested and later detained on charges of murdering a second-year high school girl, referred to as A (age 17), and attacking another male high school student, referred to as B (age 17), with a weapon on a sparsely populated walkway in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
