Paju City Expands "Find Ancestors' Land" Online Service... Convenient Home Access
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province is offering the "Find Ancestors' Land" online service, which allows citizens to conveniently protect their property rights from home.
"Find Ancestors' Land" is an administrative service that helps citizens confirm land registered under ancestors' names—land that may not have been known to descendants due to death or loss of records—or check whether they own any land when filing for bankruptcy. The purpose of this service is to guarantee citizens' right to know and support the exercise of their property rights.
According to Paju City, last year a total of 4,592 property inquiries were received, and land information for 5,260 parcels (3,840,634 square meters) was provided to 1,544 people. This number has been steadily increasing every year.
This growth is attributed to a significant improvement in citizen accessibility following the transition from a visit-based system to a unified civil service window and the implementation of an online application system.
This online service is linked to Government24, the National Spatial Information Portal, and the K-Geo platform, allowing users to apply and, with consent to provide personal information, view or print results within three days. As a result, processing times have been greatly reduced. However, if the applicant does not know the ancestor's resident registration number or needs to inquire about land owned by someone who passed away before 2008, they must visit City Hall in person with identification and a family relation certificate.

Kim Younggi, Head of the Real Estate Division, stated, "The 'Online Find Ancestors' Land' service is a practical, everyday service that enables citizens to check their own and their ancestors' property anytime, anywhere," adding, "We will continue to expand convenient real estate administrative services based on online systems in the future."
