Over 1,000 Candidates and Party Officials Attend, Reaffirming Determination to Win
Under the leadership of Representative Chung Cheong-rae, the Democratic Party of Korea is making a full-scale effort to unify the Honam region ahead of the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections. Nominees from Jeonnam, Gwangju, and Jeonbuk, along with party officials, gathered in one place to pledge victory in the local elections and the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration, officially entering full election mode.
On May 12, the Democratic Party of Korea held the "9th National Simultaneous Local Elections Jeonnam, Gwangju, and Jeonbuk Nominee Conference" at the Jeonnam Gangjin 2nd Indoor Gymnasium.
The event was attended by most of the party leadership, including Party President and Standing Co-Chair of the Election Committee Chung Cheong-rae, as well as Lee Eonju, Lee Sungyun, Hwang Myungseon, and major Honam figures such as Assemblyman Kim Won-yi and Assemblyman Yang Bunam.

Participants shouted the slogan, "Let's achieve victory with the strength of Honam," reaffirming their determination for an election win.
In his greeting, Representative Chung Cheong-rae stated, "Honam is the root of the Democratic Party and the center that has protected democracy in Korea," emphasizing, "Please give overwhelming support so that qualified Democratic Party candidates can improve people's livelihoods and lead regional development."
Kim Won-yi, Jeonnam Provincial Party Chair, also said, "Jeonnam, Gwangju, and Jeonbuk will unite as one to secure victory in this local election and lay the foundation for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration and regional development," adding, "Democratic Party candidates will serve the people with humility and work together with residents."
This nominee conference is seen as more than a simple candidate introduction; it is regarded as a symbolic event representing the unification of the pro-democracy and reform forces in the Honam region. The Democratic Party's strategy is to secure overwhelming dominance in the traditional stronghold of Honam and thereby lead the nationwide electoral landscape.
Notably, with some regions experiencing primary-related fallout and movements toward independent candidacies in the lead-up to the local elections, the party leadership's direct visit to Honam to emphasize a "one team" message is drawing attention. The Democratic Party plans to use this conference as a chance to strengthen organizational cohesion and launch a regionally focused election campaign.
