"I Can No Longer Live Within the Family" — Declares Independence
A fourth-generation member of the Bhirombhakdi family, owners of the famous Thai beer brand 'Singha', has come forward with allegations of sexual assault by a family member in the past, sparking controversy in Thai society.
On the 11th, local media outlets such as The Thaiger reported that Siranud Sai Scott, 29, who is now an environmental activist, recently posted a video on her social networking service (SNS), revealing family conflicts and disclosing past victimization, which has ignited heated debate.
Siranud, who has about 620,000 followers, pleaded in the video, “Please don’t call me the heir to the Singha family. People do not know the truth.” She then claimed that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times by a family member during her teenage years. The controversy intensified particularly because, as Siranud revealed, her family was aware of the assaults through a recorded confession from the perpetrator, yet took no action. Siranud said, “After the incident, I received no support or help from the adults or relatives in my family,” and added, “I can no longer endure in an environment where my human dignity is not recognized.” She also made public her legal dispute with her biological mother, in addition to her sexual assault allegations.
She is the granddaughter of the late Jamnong Bhirombhakdi, former chairman of Singha Corporation, and stated that her mother has filed a lawsuit over the inheritance directly passed down to her by her grandfather. Siranud said, “This year, my mother filed a lawsuit to reclaim the assets my grandfather left to me,” and claimed, “After revealing that I had been mistreated by someone who once cared for me, my family accused me of being an ‘ungrateful child.’”
