Geumcheon-gu to Launch 'Geunyang Dream' Project on the 18th
Support for Households in Crisis
Including Daily Necessities Worth 20,000 Won
On May 12, Geumcheon-gu in Seoul announced that it will officially launch the 'Geunyang Dream' project on the 18th, providing food and daily necessities unconditionally to local residents experiencing financial hardship.
The 'Geunyang Dream' project is designed to provide swift support of food and daily necessities to residents facing financial difficulties due to sudden crises. The initiative aims to proactively identify households at risk who fall through the cracks of the welfare system and to lower the barriers to applying for welfare services.
The main feature of the project is that it skips the existing complicated eligibility screening procedures. In order to offer immediate assistance to local residents facing urgent situations, such as worrying about their next meal, the project operates on a 'support first, counseling later' principle.
Any resident within the district who is experiencing financial difficulties can visit the Geumcheon-gu Food Bank Market Center in Siheung 5-dong (35, Tapgol-ro, Geumcheon-gu) with a form of identification. The center operates from Monday to Friday, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
However, to prevent indiscriminate use and to prioritize support for households in crisis that align with the project's goals, a 'self-assessment checklist for users' must also be completed. After the self-assessment and a brief verification of personal information, residents can immediately receive a package of goods worth 20,000 won, which includes food items such as instant rice, ramen, and kimchi, as well as daily necessities like toilet paper, detergent, and soap.
If ongoing support is needed, residents can revisit the center to receive basic welfare counseling on-site. Through this counseling, those who require linkage to welfare services will be immediately connected to their local community center, where customized welfare services such as basic livelihood security and emergency support will be provided to help residents achieve genuine self-reliance.
