Assemblyman Inchul Jo Secures 1.6 Billion Won in Special Grants for Gwangju Seo-gu to Address Longstanding Local Needs
10 Billion Won Secured for Yangdong Welfare Center for the Disabled
400 Million Won for Disaster Monitoring CCTV, 200 Million Won for Safety Facilities Secured
Inchul Jo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Seo-gu Gap, has secured a special grant of 1.6 billion won to address longstanding local residents' needs and expand safety infrastructure in Gwangju Seo-gu.
On May 11, Assemblyman Jo announced that he had secured a total of 1.6 billion won in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, including 1 billion won for the construction of the Yangdong Seo-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled, 400 million won for the installation of disaster monitoring CCTV, and 200 million won for the installation of safety accident prevention facilities.
With this budget secured, the project to improve outdated welfare facilities for the disabled will move forward in earnest. The existing welfare center for the disabled, which was built over 40 years ago, has consistently faced issues of aging infrastructure and insufficient space.
The new welfare center for the disabled will be constructed by 2027, with a total floor area of 3,849 square meters (one basement floor and four floors above ground), and will serve as a hub facility providing comprehensive welfare services such as counseling, rehabilitation, and vocational training.
The budget also includes allocations for public safety projects.
Across Gwangju Seo-gu, road and drainage facility installation projects will be implemented by October. The aim is to prevent vehicle and pedestrian accidents by providing warnings in zones prone to frequent freezing and by ensuring prompt drainage in case of flooding.
Additionally, to strengthen disaster response capabilities, disaster monitoring CCTV will be installed in 16 disaster-prone areas within the district by the end of the year. The goal is to establish a real-time monitoring system, reduce blind spots in disaster response, and enhance proactive response capabilities.
