High Oil Price Relief Fund: 91.2% Application Rate in First Round, 1.67 Trillion Won Paid Out

According to the results of the government's first round of applications for the "High Oil Price Relief Fund," more than 90% of eligible recipients—approximately 2.94 million people—applied for the support payment.
On May 8, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that as of 6:00 p.m. that day, a total of 2,944,073 people had applied for the High Oil Price Relief Fund, accounting for 91.2% of all eligible recipients (3,227,785 people). The total amount of support paid out was 1.6728 trillion won.
By region, Jeonnam had the highest application rate at 93.6%, followed by Seoul and Jeju (each at 92.9%), and Busan (92.7%).
The region with the lowest application rate was Gyeongnam, at 87.8%. This was followed by Gangwon (89.3%) and Gyeonggi (89.6%).
As for the payment methods, credit and debit cards accounted for the largest number of applicants, with 1,163,943 people choosing this option. This was followed by prepaid cards (1,027,742 people), local gift certificates in mobile or card form (672,275 people), and paper form (80,113 people).
The first round of High Oil Price Relief Fund payments targeted vulnerable groups such as recipients of the Basic Livelihood Security Program, the second-lowest income group, and single-parent families.
The support amount is 550,000 won per person for Basic Livelihood Security recipients, and 450,000 won per person for the second-lowest income group and single-parent families.
If the recipient lives outside the Seoul metropolitan area or resides in a government-designated depopulated region, an additional 50,000 won is provided per person.

Although the first application period ended on May 8, the government plans to resume payments for those who did not apply, starting from the 18th, when the second round of payments begins.
