Polaris Group's Three Manufacturing Affiliates Launch Full-Scale UBTECH Robot Demonstrations... Advancing Physical AI-Based Manufacturing Innovation
Polaris Group's manufacturing affiliates will serve as key testbeds for physical AI-based intelligent manufacturing innovation. By simultaneously utilizing different industrial sites in sectors such as chemicals, automotive parts, and bio, the group aims to verify humanoid robot solutions and accelerate the establishment of a group-wide AI ecosystem.
On May 8, Polaris Group announced that, based on its partnership with global humanoid robotics company UBTECH Robotics, it is beginning full-scale demonstration of physical AI solutions at the production sites of its manufacturing affiliates: Polaris Uno, Polaris Sewon, and Polaris AI Pharma.
The company explained that this project goes beyond simply introducing robots and signifies the expansion of the entire group's AI value chain. The aim is to establish a "Polaris-style AI ecosystem" by connecting actual manufacturing sites with the software capabilities of Polaris Office.
According to the company, this strategy is similar to how Microsoft transformed from a traditional document software company into a global AI company following its investment in OpenAI, or how Google, Hyundai Motor Company, and Boston Dynamics are building physical AI ecosystems by combining software, automobile manufacturing, and robotic hardware.
The core of physical AI lies in its advancement through data accumulated in real industrial environments. The completeness of AI robots depends on how precisely diverse data from actual manufacturing environments—such as temperature fluctuations, equipment malfunctions, worker movements, and process variables—can be collected. Polaris Group's manufacturing affiliates are tasked with providing this real-world data.
The roles of each affiliate have also been specified according to the characteristics of their respective industries. Polaris Uno, which specializes in polymer material synthesis, will verify industrial safety management-oriented physical AI in chemical processes involving high-temperature treatment and frequent handling of organic compounds.
Polaris Sewon, an automotive parts specialist, will focus on demonstrating robots optimized for automated logistics and precision assembly processes. Polaris AI Pharma, involved in the active pharmaceutical ingredient business, will be responsible for training robot motion data optimized for highly sterile bio-manufacturing environments.
The group emphasized that utilizing three different industrial sectors as demonstration environments simultaneously is central to this strategy. By conducting cross-verification at different industrial sites, the group aims to develop a universal solution capable of responding to a variety of environmental changes, rather than AI optimized only for a specific industry.
Another advantage is that the group can experiment and improve freely within its affiliates, enabling rapid technological advancement without the constraints of external clients. Any errors and improvements identified during the demonstration process will be immediately applied across all three sites.
This approach aligns with the strategy of major manufacturing companies such as Hyundai Motor Group, which leverage value chains among affiliates to internalize new technologies. Rather than focusing on scale, Polaris Group intends to establish itself as a leading player in the niche field of physical AI by leveraging its expertise in specialized manufacturing domains and demonstration capabilities.
Polaris Group's affiliates plan to use this demonstration project as a springboard to maximize their manufacturing expertise and play a key role in the "Polaris 2.0" era, where physical manufacturing spaces and advanced AI technologies converge.
The company stated that it will actively open its stable and specialized manufacturing sites as physical AI testbeds to enhance the completeness of industrial robot solutions, while simultaneously improving production process efficiency to lead the intelligent manufacturing innovation landscape in Korea.
