Yeonggwang Hongnong Police Substation Launches School Route Safety Campaign in Hongnong
Police, Hanbit Headquarters, and Local Residents Join Forces
School Zone Campaign Begins to "Change Driving Habits" for Children's Safety
A special "operation" to ensure the safe commute of children to school was carried out in Hongnong-eup, Yeonggwang-gun, South Jeolla Province. This was a multifaceted safety initiative that went beyond a simple awareness campaign, combining traffic control and environmental maintenance simultaneously.
The Hongnong Police Substation of Yeonggwang Police Station, together with the Community Safety Council, conducted a traffic safety campaign on the way to school in the school zone of Hongnong Elementary School on May 4.
This day’s activities focused on a "hands-on response" tailored to the actual commuting environment, rather than formal publicity. Police officers and council members personally guided students crossing the street during school hours and immediately controlled any hazards found within the school zone on site, heightening the sense of alertness.

In particular, guidance activities for drivers were carried out with increased intensity. Basic traffic rules such as obeying speed limits and coming to a complete stop before crosswalks were repeatedly emphasized, with a strong message that "you must stop in front of children." Analysts noted that this campaign stood out from previous efforts because it focused on changing driving habits on-site, rather than simply enforcing regulations.
That afternoon, the scope of activities was expanded to include "safety encompassing the environment." The Hongnong-eup Office, Hanbit Nuclear Power Headquarters, and the Community Safety Council joined forces to conduct a concentrated cleanup operation, collecting household waste abandoned along school routes and roadsides.
