Court Dismisses Ilha Park's Injunction to Suspend Dongjak Mayor Nomination Cutoff
Ilha Park, the current mayor of Dongjak District, who was excluded (cut off) from the People Power Party’s candidate nomination race for the mayoral position in Dongjak District, Seoul, filed an injunction with the court to suspend the effectiveness of the cutoff, but the request was dismissed.
On May 6, the Civil Division 51 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kwon Sungsoo) dismissed the injunction request to suspend the effectiveness of the cutoff filed by Mayor Park against the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter of the People Power Party.
The court found that the quorum for the decision to cut off Mayor Park was met and determined that the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter did not exceed or abuse its discretion in the process. The court stated, "The issue at hand was whether the quorum requirement of a majority of attending committee members was satisfied. Committee members who expressed their opinions by phone without attending the meeting in person cannot be considered 'attending members.'"
