The Labor Party, Green Party, and Justice Party in the Jeonnam–Gwangju region have launched the 'Traffic Light Alliance' Joint Election Countermeasures Committee ahead of the June 3rd local elections, declaring their intention to "break the Democratic Party's monopoly on power."
On the morning of May 6th, the three progressive parties held a press conference at the briefing room of Gwangju City Council, stating, "We will not become brother parties or satellite parties chasing the Democratic Party's halo," and pledged, "We will create a sensible democratic society where checks and balances are realized." They further declared their support for Eunmi Kang, the Justice Party candidate for the Jeonnam–Gwangju Unified Metropolitan City mayoral election, stating, "We will open a new era of social transformation through true progressive politics that leads a labor-centered society, a carbon-neutral society, and a responsible care society."

View original imageThe three progressive parties also announced, "Through a major transformation in labor, energy, and the economy, we will overcome the crises of labor, climate, and regional extinction with competent progressive politics that will change the lives of citizens." They added, "We will embody the promises of the three progressive parties in the policies and pledges of candidate Eunmi Kang, who is running for special mayor, and join forces together."
Additionally, they said, "We ask for your support for Eunmi Kang, the real progressive opposition candidate who has protected the lives and safety of citizens, broken the one-party monopoly, and built a mutually thriving community." They continued, "With a steadfast Traffic Light Alliance, we will run together to the end toward a 'Labor Special City Where Every Citizen Shines.'"
They asserted, "The crises of population decline and inequality are the results of the entrenched two-party system and monopolistic politics," and added, "We will build a mutually thriving community in Jeonnam and Gwangju by resolving inequality and realizing carbon neutrality."
They further promised, "We will reduce the gap between urban and rural areas, between large cities and small to medium-sized cities, and realize job security, fair wages, and safe workplaces." They continued, "We will pursue a transition to renewable energy based on denuclearization, create green jobs, and implement solar and wind pension schemes."

They also stated, "The People Power Party is blocking constitutional amendment efforts to include the spirit of the May 18 Democratic Movement in the preamble of the Constitution," and declared, "We will sternly judge parties that defend insurrection and mock the spirit of May 18."
