One Teen Injured During Late-Night Attack on Pedestrian Walkway
A stabbing incident occurred late at night on a pedestrian walkway near a university area in downtown Gwangju, resulting in the death of one high school student and injury of another. Police have identified a suspect and are currently tracking his whereabouts.
According to Gwangsan Police Station and other sources, at around 12:11 a.m. on May 5, a second-year female high school student, referred to as "A," was stabbed by an unidentified individual wielding a weapon on a walkway near a university in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.
A male student of the same age, referred to as "B," who was passing by, approached the scene after hearing the woman's scream and was also injured by the same individual.
A was transported to the hospital but ultimately died from her injuries, while B is receiving treatment and is not in life-threatening condition.
Police investigations have provisionally determined that the suspect and the victims did not know each other. It was also confirmed that the two students attend different schools.
Both victims were attacked in the neck area, and police responded to the scene after a citizen at the site reported the incident.
The location of the incident is a pedestrian walkway near a university in the city center, but it is reported that pedestrian traffic is low during late-night hours.
