Ministry of Agriculture Expands "Week for Rural Tourism" Program
The government will provide discounts on rural experience programs and accommodations to promote rural tourism in May, the Month of Family.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on April 29 that the "Week for Rural Tourism," which is typically held during the second week of each month, will be extended to cover the entire month of May, in celebration of the Month of Family.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained, "This expanded operation aims to broaden opportunities for family trips—which are in high demand in May—and to revitalize the local economy. During the expanded Week for Rural Tourism in May, discounts on rural experience and accommodation packages will be significantly increased."
The number of participating villages and available products bookable through online payment platforms will increase from 10 villages and 60 types of products in April to 20 villages and 100 types in May. Rural experience programs will be discounted by up to 30%, and accommodation packages by up to 20%.
In addition, 55 rural tourism products operated in five regions—Buyeo in South Chungcheong Province, Namwon in North Jeolla Province, Boseong in South Jeolla Province, Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province, and Jeju—will newly offer discounts of up to 30% starting in May. Support for rural workation programs, which take into account demand for extended stays, will also continue. Users of these programs can receive a discount of 50,000 won per day (up to a maximum of 150,000 won), and traveler insurance will also be provided.
Han-Young Jeon, Director-General of Rural Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated, "To mark May as the Month of Family, we have prepared various discounts and events so that families can enjoy special time together in rural areas. We will continue to actively support rural tourism so it can become a part of everyday leisure culture and contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
