View original imageOn April 28, the dedicated investigation team at the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had requested arrest warrants for two men in their 30s, identified as Mr. A and Mr. B, on charges of death resulting from assault.
Previously, in October of last year, Director Changmin Kim was dining with his son, who has a developmental disability, at a restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, when a dispute over noise broke out with customers at a neighboring table, resulting in a group assault. He was subsequently taken to the hospital but ultimately fell into a brain-dead state. After saving four lives through organ donation, he passed away.
Although it was reported that there were six people in the assailant's group, the police initially identified only one person as a perpetrator. When the prosecution requested a supplementary investigation and rejected the initial case, the police added an accomplice and reapplied for arrest warrants for two suspects. However, the court dismissed the warrants, stating there was no risk of evidence destruction, and the two suspects were referred to the prosecution without being detained.
Subsequently, the prosecution took over the case from the police and formed a dedicated investigation team consisting of three prosecutors and five investigators to reopen the investigation. The team summoned Director Kim's son, who was present at the scene and has a developmental disability, as a witness for questioning. They also executed a search and seizure of the suspects' residences on April 15 and conducted a nearly 10-hour interrogation on April 24.
The pre-arrest interrogation (substantive warrant review) for Mr. A and Mr. B will be held at the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court.
