Reduced Travel Time for Jeoncheon Users... Improved Accessibility
Donghae City in Gangwon Province announced that it will begin full-scale expansion and maintenance projects for road infrastructure to address residents' daily inconveniences, such as chronic traffic congestion sections, disconnected road segments, and areas with a high frequency of traffic accidents, all aimed at creating a safer road environment.
First, for the intersection section of National Route 7 from Hyoga Intersection to Naan Intersection, which has been identified as a chronic congestion area, the city plans to invest a total of 300 million won this year to construct a dedicated right-turn lane with a width of 3.5 meters and a length of 100 meters, in order to secure smoother traffic flow.
Additionally, to resolve disconnected roads and improve accessibility, the city will proceed with a new road construction project between Bukpyeong-dong Jeil Church and the former marketplace, featuring a width of 8 meters and a length of 355 meters. Once completed, this section is expected to shorten travel time for citizens using the Jeoncheon local stream, as well as improve accessibility and provide additional parking space.
The city will also continue projects to create a pedestrian-friendly environment. Since 2021, the coastal walkway installation project has been underway, and this year, 1.2 billion won will be invested to construct a 300-meter section in the area of Eodal Beach, with completion targeted within the year. Once finished, a coastal tourism walking course connecting Mukho, Eodal, and Daejin will be established, providing citizens and visitors with a new relaxation space and tourist attraction.
In addition, at the entrance intersection of Dongho Agricultural Products Market, which has been selected as a target site for the '2025 High-Frequency Traffic Accident Area Improvement Project,' the city will invest 120 million won to carry out intersection improvement work. Through this, the aim is to create a pedestrian-oriented road environment by preventing traffic accidents and ensuring pedestrian safety.
Ongoing projects such as the road expansion between Bukpyeong Gumi Drainage and Haeoreum Sports Center, as well as the highway underpass expansion between Dongho and Manwoo, are scheduled for completion in the first half of the year.
Furthermore, in preparation for the Disabled Sports Festival and Provincial Sports Festival to be held in May and June, the city is currently carrying out maintenance of aging road surfaces and outdated road signs. The main arterial road maintenance is expected to be completed by the end of May, providing athletes and visitors with a pleasant road environment.
