These vessels represent the largest specifications that can be built at the Busan Yeongdo Shipyard dock, and they have been developed based on the design of existing 7,700–9,000 TEU-class eco-friendly container ships.
Featuring high-efficiency and cutting-edge design, the deck and cargo hold capacity have been expanded, and the ships are characterized by optimized designs that enhance process efficiency and safety. In February, HJ Heavy Industries received its first order for a large container ship of over 10,000 TEU at the Yeongdo Shipyard, and with this latest order, the company is strengthening its presence in the relevant market.
The newly ordered vessels will be equipped with eco-friendly specifications to comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations. They will feature scrubbers, which are desulfurization systems, as well as an Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) system that enables the use of shore-side electricity while docked at port.
HJ Heavy Industries has also completed development of an LNG dual-fuel (LNG DF) propulsion model based on the same hull design. The company plans to offer a range of options to shipowners in response to stricter environmental regulations and increasing demand for eco-friendly fuel conversion in the future.
Furthermore, by continuously building ships of the same hull design, known as the "repetitive construction effect," the company expects to improve efficiency across design, procurement, and production processes, thereby enhancing profitability. From the shipowners' perspective, securing sister ships also offers the advantage of improved operational efficiency.
