Enchem Expands in European Electrolyte Market... Targets 'Mid- to Low-Priced Electric Vehicles'
Expanding Beyond High-Performance to Price-Competitive Product Lines
Accelerating Customer Acquisition Through Verkor and Renault Projects
Strengthening Growth Foundation by Aligning Local Production with Policy Environment
Enchem is accelerating its efforts to penetrate the local market by strengthening its strategy for mid- to low-priced electric vehicle electrolyte solutions in line with the growth of the European electric vehicle market.
Enchem announced that it will expand its business targeting the European mid- to low-priced electric vehicle market by focusing on cost-effective electrolyte products. Centered on electrolytes for mid-nickel batteries, the company has secured high-voltage stability and improved oxidative decomposition resistance, and has completed the development of related additives to enhance product competitiveness. This strategy is designed to simultaneously target increased driving range and improved fast-charging performance.
The company is also expanding its product portfolio. Enchem plans to simultaneously operate a diverse lineup in the European market, including electrolytes for NCA (nickel, cobalt, aluminum), NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese), LFP (lithium, iron, phosphate), and silicon (Si) anode batteries. By expanding beyond its existing focus on high-performance products to include more price-competitive offerings, the company aims to broaden its ability to meet various demands.
Enchem is also working to secure a customer base within Europe. The company is responding to the Renault project, primarily through the French battery company Verkor’s gigafactory, and is pursuing collaborations with several customers in France, Poland, Hungary, and Italy. Enchem is expanding its sales activities with the goal of securing approximately 10 customers across Europe.
By region, the company is supplying samples for new projects in Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Spain. Previously, it has mainly supplied electrolytes for NCM and LFP batteries and dispersants, but plans to expand its product lineup in line with increasing demand.
Production and supply are centered at the Wroclaw plant in Poland. Enchem has secured a total electrolyte production capacity of 200,000 tons in Europe, with a system capable of producing 130,000 tons in Poland and 70,000 tons in Hungary. By locating its plants near the production bases of major battery manufacturers, the company has achieved both logistical efficiency and supply stability.
The European policy environment is also positively affecting business expansion. The European Union’s Industrial Acceleration Act (IAA) encourages local production of batteries and electric vehicles. The inclusion of local production requirements in public procurement and subsidy criteria, along with strengthened carbon emission regulations and restrictions on external subsidies, is highlighting the competitiveness of companies with local production bases.
Demand is also rapidly increasing. According to the Guardian, the number of new electric vehicle registrations in 15 European countries last month reached 224,000 units, a 51.3% increase compared to the previous year. On a cumulative basis for the first quarter of this year, registrations totaled 500,000 units, up 33.5%.
