Democratic Party Primary Confirms Seo Younghak for Yeosu Mayor, Kim Hanjong for Jangseong County Governor
The Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party announced the results of its primary on April 25 and confirmed the final candidates for mayor of Yeosu and governor of Jangseong County.
First, in the race for Yeosu mayor, candidate Seo Younghak defeated candidate Kim Youngkyu to secure the nomination.
This Yeosu mayoral primary was conducted through a telephone poll from April 24 to April 25, with the votes weighted at 80% from the general public and 20% from party members with voting rights.
Originally, the Democratic Party had planned to hold a primary among the four candidates who passed the preliminary round, using a 50% general public and 50% party members with voting rights weighting on April 14 and 15. However, the schedule was delayed due to a controversy over the leaking of the party member list.
Subsequently, the Democratic Party designated the Yeosu mayoral constituency as a strategic district and changed the primary voting method.
In the Jangseong County governor primary, which had also been delayed due to allegations of proxy voting, candidate Kim Hanjong defeated candidates Park Nowon and So Youngho to secure the nomination.
