Sindeung and Sinan Districts in Sancheong County Selected for Rural Water Resources Development Project
Selected for Ministry of Agriculture Project
Strengthening Drought Response Capabilities
Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on April 24 that the Sindeung and Sinan districts have been newly selected as target areas for the rural water resources development project promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
This project aims to strengthen drought response capabilities in the face of climate change and to create an agricultural environment that enables the cultivation of a variety of crops, moving away from single-crop rice farming. In particular, the focus is on improving farming structures by establishing a foundation for cultivating facility horticultural crops.
Accordingly, the county plans to invest a total project cost of 24 billion won to expand infrastructure such as water transmission pipelines for the stable supply of agricultural water.
Previously, due to challenges in farming caused by groundwater depletion and water pollution in Sindeung-myeon and Sinan-myeon areas, Sancheong County had implemented the first phase of the project by investing 9.6 billion won from its own budget in 2024.
Subsequently, during the process of establishing the master plan, the need for additional project funding was raised, and the county applied for a new project under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs earlier this year.
The county expects that upon completion of this project, a stable water supply infrastructure will be established, enabling the cultivation of high-income crops and greatly contributing to enhancing farm household income.
