Both companies are affiliates of PetroVietnam (PVN), which is currently promoting the Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plant project in the central region of Vietnam.
Chairman Park Ji-won accompanied President Lee Jaemyung as part of the economic delegation during his visit to Vietnam, attending business roundtables and forums, and discussed ways to expand nuclear power cooperation with key figures from the Vietnamese government and energy industry.
This agreement is significant in that it proactively established a private-sector cooperation framework as part of Team Korea's efforts, led by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), to participate in Vietnam's new nuclear power projects. Doosan Enerbility has secured a local supply chain base in the nuclear power equipment and construction sectors, laying a bridgehead for future business participation.
The Ninh Thuan nuclear power project is Vietnam's first commercial nuclear power project. Ninh Thuan 1 is being promoted by Russia, while Team Korea is seeking to win the Ninh Thuan 2 project by proposing the Korean-designed APR1400 reactor. Korea Electric Power Corporation is expanding cooperation by signing an MOU on workforce development with PVN and holding supply chain cooperation seminars.
