Expanding Beyond Elevators to Aerospace and Defense Sectors
Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced on April 22 that it held discussions at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Office on strategies to attract anchor companies in order to strengthen the competitiveness of the elevator industry and to promote early leasing of the Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex.
The meeting was attended by officials such as the Director General of Economy & Trade and the Head of Investment Promotion from Gyeongnam Province, as well as the Director General of Economy & Welfare and other public officials from Geochang County. The participants focused on strategies to attract anchor company logistics centers tailored to regional conditions, administrative support measures, and future directions for investment promotion.

View original imageThe Gyeongnam Provincial Government emphasized the need for differentiated strategies and the establishment of a prompt administrative support system to overcome Geochang County’s geographical limitations. In particular, it proposed creating a system that can expedite administrative procedures in the company attraction process, such as by operating a dedicated task force for licensing and permits.
Additionally, the province called for concurrent efforts to attract companies in new industries, such as the aerospace and defense sectors, alongside those in the elevator industry.
The county underscored the urgency of attracting anchor company logistics centers in order to maintain the competitiveness of local key industries and stabilize the industrial ecosystem, and requested active support and cooperation from the provincial government.
A county official stated, "Through this meeting, we have confirmed the possibility of attracting logistics centers, and we will work closely with Gyeongnam Province to achieve tangible results."

This meeting went beyond a simple exchange of opinions, as it served to concretize strategies in response to changing regional development conditions, including the planned completion of the Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex in July 2027, the designation of the area as a leading investment zone by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the installation of an industrial complex-exclusive interchange, and the scheduled opening of the Hamyang–Ulsan Expressway at the end of 2026.
