He continued, "The first state guest of the new Korean administration was the General Secretary of Vietnam, and now, after the formation of Vietnam's new leadership, my visit is the first official state visit. This demonstrates how our two countries perceive and value each other."
President Lee also called for an active role from the National Assembly of Vietnam going forward. He said, "Korea and Vietnam have rapidly developed a mutually beneficial partnership based on trade, investment, and vibrant people-to-people exchanges. Compared to the time of diplomatic normalization in 1992, trade volume has increased by 190 times and people-to-people exchanges by 2,400 times." He added, "Korea and Vietnam are among each other's top three trading partners, and Korea is the largest investor in Vietnam. These achievements have been possible thanks to consistent support from the National Assembly of Vietnam, which has led national development and institutional reforms."
President Lee further stated, "I ask for the continued proactive role of the National Assembly under your leadership so that our bilateral relations can remain strong and unwavering. I hope that our meeting today will serve to further vitalize exchanges between our parliaments, ensuring institutional support for cooperation between our two countries."
President Lee also requested attention for Korean citizens and businesses operating in Vietnam. He said, "For the improvement of the rights and interests of Koreans in Vietnam and for better business operations of Korean companies, I ask for the National Assembly's continued interest and support."
The meeting took place in the lobby on the first floor of the National Assembly building and in the Hoa Sen Room, designated for talks. President Lee arrived at the main entrance, where he was received by Chairman Tran Thanh Man. After greeting the participants from both sides and taking commemorative photos, the official dialogue began in a meeting room adorned with both nations’ flags and a bust of President Ho Chi Minh.
