Establishing a Hub for AI and SW Talent in the Southeastern Region

Nurturing Over 250 Practical AI Professionals Annually

The 'Gyeongnam Codyssey Campus,' set to become a central hub for nurturing AI and software (SW) talent in the southeastern region of Korea, will be established at Gyeongnam University.

Following Gyeongsangnam-do's selection for the government's '2026 AI Innovation Academy Regional Expansion Project,' this initiative will officially begin operations this year under the name 'Gyeongnam Codyssey Campus.'

Located in the 5th Engineering Building at Gyeongnam University, the campus is set to become a leading future talent development platform in the southeastern region, providing specialized AI and SW education to local youth, working professionals, and industry practitioners.

'Codyssey' is a compound word combining 'Coding' and 'Odyssey.' It is a Korean-style AI and SW education platform independently developed by the Seoul Innovation Academy, based on the French innovation education model 'Ecole 42.' Unlike traditional lecture-based education centered on professors and textbooks, Codyssey emphasizes self-directed learning, peer learning, and project-based learning (PBL).

The curriculum will be offered in two tracks: 'AI All-in-One' and 'AI Native.' The 'AI All-in-One' track is an 18-month program focused on training AI and SW developers and professional engineers. The 'AI Native' track is a five-month intensive course designed to nurture industry-ready AX professionals, with practical skills in generative AI, prompt engineering, and automation tool utilization.

Gyeongnam University and Gyeongsangnam-do have been collaborating since 2023 to secure this project. Gyeongnam University has provided the 5th Engineering Building as an educational space and has been working to establish the necessary infrastructure.

Remodeling is currently underway, with the goal of completing and opening the campus by the end of October this year. Upon completion, the campus will feature a 24-hour open learning space, state-of-the-art educational computers, and collaborative project areas.

Once fully operational, the Gyeongnam Codyssey Campus is expected to serve as an AI and SW talent hub not only for Gyeongsangnam-do but also for the broader southeastern region, including Busan and Ulsan.

Given the high proportion of manufacturing in the southeastern region's industrial structure, there is a steadily increasing demand for field-oriented AI professionals. By cultivating more than 250 practical AI specialists annually through the Codyssey Campus, the initiative is expected to play a significant role in driving the region's transition to artificial intelligence and boosting productivity innovation.

President Park Jaekyu stated, "The Gyeongnam Codyssey Campus is a future-oriented AI talent development platform created through collaboration among local industry, the university, and the local government. Gyeongnam University will fully support the project by providing educational space and campus infrastructure, as well as linking industry-academia cooperation networks to ensure the successful establishment of the initiative."
