Jang Donghyuk: "We Must Identify Our Opponents and Fight Accordingly"
With the 9th nationwide local elections scheduled for June 3, as a trend emerges in each region to distance themselves from the central party—referred to as the 'breakaway from Jang Donghyuk'—the central People Power Party has issued instructions to form regional election campaign committees. Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, warned that he would take strong action against any acts that harm the party, stating that even candidates could be replaced if necessary.
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, is speaking at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 23rd.

He also noted that such guidelines are customary during local elections, adding, "We will monitor the final stages of candidate nominations and will also form a central campaign committee." As independent campaign committees have begun to take shape in regions such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Busan—signaling a distancing from the central party—these guidelines have been issued in response.
Jang emphasized, "An army with broken discipline can never win a battle," and added, "Any acts that harm the party from this point forward will be met with strong measures." He further stated, "If a candidate is found to be acting against the party's interest, they will be replaced immediately," stressing, "Now is the time to properly identify our opponents and fight the right battles." His strong response comes amid ongoing internal pressure, such as Gangwon Province Governor Kim Jin-tae (a candidate for Gangwon Governor) who, the previous day, called on Jang to 'take responsibility and resolve the issue himself.'

Within and outside the party, there is interpretation that this statement is linked to the demands for no party nomination and candidate unification in the Busan Buk-gu Gap by-election, where former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon is expected to run. While party leadership opposes these demands, even Assemblyman Kim Daesik, the chief special adviser to the party leader, has mentioned the need to unify with former leader Han. In addition, some lawmakers aligned with Han Donghoon have announced plans to support his campaign.
